My Story

The "Why", If You Will

First, as you probably already know from my home page, my name is Jocelyn Martinez. Some of my friends and family call me Joc, Jo, Joselina, or JoJo, but I think I have always liked Jocelyn or Joc the best. I am half Dominican and half European mutt as I like to say, and I grew up in a small town, Totowa, New Jersey. I have been dancing in various styles, such as hip hop, tap, jazz, ballet, jazz funk, contemporary, modern, lyrical, and more, since the age of four.

At the age of twelve I struggled with anorexia, which showed me just how essential the art of dance and music was to my soul and well-being. My main focus right now, however,  is my professional dance career as well as modeling...pretty much anything that allows me to move my body and connect to others--that's really all we're seeking at the end of the day, right?

I could talk about life all day, but I guess you should get to know more about my career history lol. I have danced in a variety of projects, such as 50 CENT's Final Lap Tour, Mariah Carey's "Merry Christmas To All" Tour, So You Think You Can Dance Season 17 (Top 24), "Shelter" Season 1 on Amazon Prime, Selena's Motion Capture film, several Capezio campaigns, America's Got Talent as a backup dancer for "The Gentlemen", and more. I have also modeled for various Capezio campaigns, Beachbody, Cezanne Hair, IT Cosmetics, Shielded Beauty, and more. Additionally, I am so grateful to have been able to work with such talented choreographers, such as Josh Smith, Lindsay Ducos, Bryan Tanaka, Anthony KIn, Gilbert Saldivar, Tye Myers, Kevin Csolak, Soraya Lundy, and more. In terms of training, I have had the pleasure to learn from Keenan Cooks, Tyrell & Latrina Washington, Tobias Ellehammer, Lindsay Ducos, Ryan Miller, Ashley Cruz, Tia Rivera, Chloe & Maud Arnold, Jay Mills, James Alonso, Galen Hooks, Kris Terry, Mike Minery, Al Blackstone, Kristen Gorski, and more.

When I am not training or working on a project, I dedicate most of my time to creating User Generated Content for various companies, such as Urban Decay, Experian, DoorDash, Cerebral, Noteworthy, Nurx, and more. I also create various videos to advocate for people struggling with mental health, worthiness, and confidence, and to simply share my life--hopefully inspiring and helping others along the way.

As a college graduate, I am now looking forward to throwing myself fully and undoubtedly into my dance and modeling career, utilizing my multitasking skills along the way. Lastly, although I do love to stay versatile because I enjoy doing all styles of dance, I do have an extra special place in my heart for the commercial dance scene and atmosphere, which is why I have relocated to Los Angeles to fully focus on my dance career in addition to modeling. Now...I think that was already enough talking on my part, so I encourage you to go ahead and check out the rest of my site! Thanks for being here & take some time to smell the roses today! Keep pushing...

-Joc
